About
Mark J. Berkowitz, J.D.
Arbitrator, mediator, attorney, and adjunct professor of law — bringing more than 35 years of labor and employment law experience to the resolution of disputes.

Mark J. Berkowitz has practiced labor and employment law for more than 35 years. Over the course of that practice, he developed a deep working knowledge of the disputes that arise in the workplace — and of how those disputes are best resolved.
His career began in the active representation of parties in labor and employment matters. Over time, the perspective gained from representing parties across a wide range of disputes naturally led to work as a neutral. Today, Mark serves as an arbitrator and mediator, drawing on decades of litigation experience to guide proceedings that are fair, well-prepared, and efficient.
Experience Before Courts and Agencies
Mark has appeared before state and federal courts and before administrative agencies throughout his career, including:
- The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC)
- The National Labor Relations Board (NLRB)
- The Florida Commission on Human Relations
- The Florida Public Employees Relations Commission
- The Merit Systems Protection Board
Arbitrator, Mediator, Professor, Author, Speaker
Mark's work now spans the full arc of alternative dispute resolution. As an arbitrator, he brings thorough preparation and a disciplined, impartial approach to the hearing and decision of disputes. As a mediator, he helps parties evaluate their positions and explore meaningful opportunities for resolution while preserving party self-determination.
He teaches Alternative Dispute Resolution as an Adjunct Professor of Law at St. Thomas University College of Law, and he writes and speaks regularly on arbitration, mediation, and the evolving practice of dispute resolution — including a substantive focus on Early Dispute Resolution and the use of technology in arbitration.
Throughout, his work is guided by a commitment to fairness, preparation, impartiality, and the efficient resolution of disputes.
